Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council approached us to redesign the Council’s brand. The original logo, the Coat of Arms, carries a lot of sentiment for the Borough, therefore it was important to retain elements of the original design such as the Martyr.
The Council wanted to make sure that the new corporate brand represented the Borough moving forward, looking to the future. It needed to reflect the Council’s vision and aspirations in a distinctive way, and be reproduced easily in a variety of formats from letterheads, to signage and vehicles etc.
A series of logos were produced. Each of these were focus grouped amongst the key stakeholders: the staff; committees, management, business and of course, the public. We created a stylised final logo that interpreted the image of the martyr in a contemporary way. This reflected the council’s objectives to be seen as a forward moving body. To ensure a coherent image, we provided clear Corporate Guidelines for use on all elements of print and online press i.e. stationery; e signatures; transport livery; brochures; reports; web pages; exhibitions; magazines etc.
The branding has given Merthyr Tydfil a new identity which portrays the Council as forward thinking and adaptable to change and the people’s choice. The Council strives to be the best at what it does and the new design supports this attitude.
